“…in order to live our best life, we must first take care of all the elements – our homes, family, friends and most importantly, ourselves.”
It is human nature to seek out what we each believe to be our best life, to look on at those around us with envy, those who appear to be doing it all just that little bit better. Prettier, slimmer, richer, happier, better job, better home, better car, better holidays, better salary… it’s little wonder that so many in today’s environment suffer the effects of anxiety and overwhelm.
Surrounded by relentless self-imposed pressure to compete, to always be doing everything better, in order to be happy. What if it all just stopped? What if the car, the house, the job was as good as it was ever going to get? Would that be enough?
The answer is simple – lower expectations and accept life for what it is right now. Look at things from a different perspective, in place of a life that doesn’t measure up and the world becomes filled with opportunity to make the most of any given situation.
Instead of wallowing in self pity for the unobtainable, take control of the elements in life, one by one. It may be as simple as a weekend working bee, a coat of paint, some indoor plants and a de-clutter to breath new life into a home and transform the lives that function within it. Or take control of relationship, health or money issues.
We are all living a version of the dream life, lucky to be alive and sharing in this journey, what a waste to spend it seeking out the unobtainable. When we accept life for what it is right now, the pressure literally lifts.
Consider that in order to live our best life, we must first take care of all the elements – our homes, family, friends and most importantly, ourselves. Through this structure we take control of the chaos that leaves us feeling deprived and seeking something more, to make room for contentment, spontaneity and joy without pressure or expectation.
